LIFE IN COLOR (The Big Bang) - Review

On Thursday 18th the Life in Color crew touched down in Trinidad for the second time to throw down yet another epic paint party. As the sun set from a work day to a long weekend, ravers flocked in droves to O2 Park Chaguaramas. After the grueling traffic on the tiny Chaguaramas roads and a reasonable queue to get in, the REDM team charged to the front lines taking LIC's advice to "Go Hard in Paint".

The Line up
Bass Monstars

HOLY SHIT! That line up was a pleasure to behold. 3 internationals, two of which are currently have top hits on the EDM billboards. Hats off to our local stage particularly excellent performances by Bass Gang and Star947.

The renowned DJ R3hab delivered a solid performance, a bit slow to the start but picked it up midway through the session and got those fists pumping. You know us Trinis ... we like it hard and that's where it went when R3hab was completely overshadowed by DVBBS with "we were young" likely because their "vibe" in more vibrant and suited for a Trini party.

The crowd really threw into in for their newest track Pyramids but their choice of a JW and Blaze's Palance to finish off their show really hit home as nod to us Trinis while being both hilarious and fun.

DVBBS LOVES TRINIDAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #palance

The show ended with Morten. Of the 3 international DJ's, this one I have never heard of before. He by no means has the star power that R3hab and DVBBS have however ... doing a little digging and hearing some of his music I knew ... he would steal the show. Morten began and almost instantly the air of the party changed, the bass oh that bass was epic. I truly can't say I knew which of his tunes he played as he was one of the more obscure DJ's however any deep bass lover would have appreciated what he was spinning.

As expected with the vibe of our local ravers which hopefully the crowd was generally a cool bunch, non of those "you step on my shoe" people and not too many people drunk out their minds with reckless abandon for their surroundings. It was a thick crowd with everyone partying their minds out happily.

Pros, Cons, Opinions

Pros
Good police presence
Good venue - aside from Chagauramas terrible traffic
Easily accessible drinks - CANNED DRINKS unlike LIC 1 and many J'ouvert bands etc. where paint gets in your cup ... just gimme a can so I can get back in the fray! This was a major +
Safe cool crowd
Lighting and Stage effects - Outstanding display here

Cons
Gear - Team REDM was geared to the tooth but it would have been nice to see some glow sticks and stuff thrown around. Thankfully GLOWTT was around.

Opinions
Warm Paint - Mixed feelings on this one, LIC1 was frigid, the night was cold and the paint was cold, but being in a pumping warm blooded crowd made the occasional cool splash a welcomed refresher. This time the paint was warm, while that seems like a great idea for people who would be feeling cold the "warm paint" felt more like slime. It was not like our regular J'ouvert Penta or Berger thickness that clings to your body nor was it the vibrant splashes in their lovely advertisements. As a graphic artist myself I assure you, those pics are very much photoshopped.

It's a PAINT PARTY - I am aware that there are some people who don't want to get paint on them. It's a paint party, like seriously ... why are you here? Either way suck it up! You probably have worse on you if you just walk through Town.

VIP? - I still don't get the point of this VIP, there is not really any significant difference between VIP and general.

REDM Party Rating
For Trinidad - 8/10

Besides the eargasm LIC 2015 seemed wash down compared to 2014 in terms of the on stage visuals.
