Off the bat I admit, I went to this event with no intention of writing about it. The Halloween party review was intended to be one of the parties at Zen, Aria or Tzar the following day. However after attending Alias Halloween Cosplay Party I was compelled to write about this phenomenal small event.
No there was no Skrillex, no David Draiman appearance. What this event had was something lacking in almost every Halloween party I have attended thus far, "Fun". From the old Nuts Halloween to large scale events at Space, Coco Lounge and Zen, all good parties however they always seem to feel like a generic part at these venues with a Halloween overlay. Best dressed man, best dressed woman, biggest crew blah blah blah! Been there done that!
Alias however was filled with creativity. A karaoke competition where genres were selected by shooting a nerf gun at a white board. The crowd had a good time laughing with the volunteer performers of the night. Video games ... a video game area ... yes ... in a party ... yes just because you might want to for fun ... FUN ... being the key word here, still in shock that persona 4 arena was even there!
Now the music. If you truly love Rock, if you are tired of a 2 song EDM "segment" just to appease to the minority of musically diverse people then this is your Garden of Eden. To recall some of the rock picks, Black Sabbath's Iron Man, System of a Down's Arials, Kid Rock Bawitdaba and some anime rock like DBZ's Rock the Dragon and Galaxy Rangers' No Guts No Glory. EDM tunes varied from Zombie Nation, Take U There, Selfie and Sandstorm. These songs accompanied by a host of other must play Halloween tunes made for a great REDM style selection.
Overall what this event had was heart and a music selection that was not a splash of Rock and/or EDM just to please the minority. The organizers did a fantastic job putting this together and I hope not only to see it return next year but grow develop further.
